He was instrumental in the design and building of the 50,000 SF ice rink complex. His passion for ice sports in particular hockey has lead him to become a leader in the Northeast in Youth & Junior hockey development and building ice rinks public and private. He has developed and built over 40 outdoor rinks.
Ryan attended NYU Stern School of Business and during that time he represented the Team U.S.A. in the World University Games in Italy. While at NYU, he was captain during his sophomore through senior seasons and two-time ACHA All-American.
After attending NYU, Ryan signed a professional contract with Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL. In Knoxville, Ryan earned the distinguished service award for his contribution to the local community. The following year Ryan signed in Europe with Eric Lind. After their return to North America they went on to be two of the founding members of the New England Stars in Danbury, CT.
Ryan has 16 years of coaching experience, Master Level Coaching Certificate (USA Hockey) and has coached for CT area teams successfully earning him a loyal following among CT hockey families. In 2005, Ryan founded North American Hockey School with Eric Lind. Together, they built a hockey school of both international reputation and loyal local following. In 2008, Ryan formed The New England Generals, a nonprofit spring travel organization dedicated to developing youth players from the New England area, specifically Fairfield County. One of Ryan’s main focuses has been the development and progression of local players both through camps, travel teams, and private lessons. During this same period, Ryan formed the company North American Rink Management/ Winter Classic Rinks. This company builds, installs, and manages private rinks for individuals, families, and facilities.
Ryan has always had a vision to create a center of learning for both hockey and figure skating and has followed that dream to fruition with the building of the SoNo Ice House in historic South Norwalk, CT. The rink will be home to two rinks, one official NHL sized (200’ x 85’) and one training rink (120’ x 60’), pro shop, gym, and café. SoNo Ice House is the latest addition to the resurrection of Norwalk’s businesses. It’s been more than 20 years since Norwalk has had a rink or hockey/skating programs and now, Ryan has led the way for future development in our area.
